your website goals
Before you jump into building, you know exactly what you want your website to do for your business. Your goal guides every decision β what pages you need, what content you create, and how you design it.
Pick one main goal. With one clear goal, you create a straightforward customer journey β guiding visitors from landing on your site all the way to taking action.
Good examples of website goals- Grow your email list β e.g. reaching 100 new subscribers each month
- Get consistent discovery call bookings from potential clients
- Increase online sales β e.g. reaching a specific monthly revenue target
brainstorm your one main goal
- What do I want my website to do for my business right now?
- Is my priority more leads or more sales?
- What would success look like in numbers? (e.g. 100 subscribers/month, 5 calls/week)
map your pages & copy
Once you know your goal, figure out which pages will help you achieve it. Less is more β you don’t need 15 pages to have an effective website. Start simple, then build from there.
- Home β Who you help
- About β Story + credentials
- Work With Me β Programs
- Blog/Recipes β Free value
- Testimonials
- Class Schedule
- Retreats β Details + pricing
- About β Philosophy
Once you’ve mapped your pages, it’s time to write your website copy β the headlines, descriptions, and call-to-action buttons that go on each page. The moment someone lands on your page, they need to quickly answer three things:
Website copy doesn’t need to be perfect β it just needs to be clear. Think simple, conversational, and focused on helping your visitor understand what you do and what to do next.
Clear CTA examples- Book a Call β “Book your free 20-minute intro call”
- Sign Up β “Get my weekly wellness tips”
- Shop Now β “Browse the new candle collection”
- Read More β “Learn how my 3-step method works”

Describe your brand personality, icons, patterns, overall feel:choosing images
Images have the biggest visual impact on your website. They engage your audience and help tell your brand story without words. If you don’t have your own photos yet, stock images are absolutely fine to start β just make them feel like you by adding a brand colour overlay or cropping creatively.
Three types of images that work beautifully on websitesplan and gather your images
- Create a Pinterest board with photo inspiration
- Book a personal branding photoshoot
- Or browse Unsplash, Pexels, or Stocksy and save images that feel right
your opt-in / freebie
One of the best ways to turn website visitors into potential customers is by offering an opt-in β something valuable for free in exchange for their email address.
- An email marketing service β Mailchimp, MailerLite, or Kit are all great starting points
- A freebie β a PDF guide, video series, Google doc, newsletter, or coupon that solves a real problem for your audience
plan your opt-in
- Brainstorm freebie ideas β what problem does your audience have right now?
- Research email service providers and sign up for one
website tools
Now that you’ve mapped your pages, planned your copy, gathered your branding and imagery, and decided on your opt-in β it’s time to choose the tech that brings it all to life.
Popular website platforms- WordPress.org β most control and flexibility; my personal recommendation
- Squarespace β clean templates, all-in-one
- Wix β beginner-friendly drag and drop
- Showit β beautiful, design-focused
- A domain β your website address (e.g. yourbusiness.com) β paid yearly to a registrar
- A hosting package β where your files live; pay monthly to keep your site running
- Cloudways β reliable and trusted; backend can be more technical
- Domains.co.za β South African favourite, fantastic support, great pricing (my personal pick)
Some links above are affiliate links.
